Survey: 70% of Kherson residents named houses destroyed by shelling as a priority for the reconstruction of the city

70% of Kherson residents believe that the priority for the reconstruction of the city is the houses destroyed as a result of Russian shelling.

This is evidenced by the results of an online survey of Kherson residents regarding the socio-economic and security situation in the community, conducted on the order of the Kherson Community Fund «Defense».

Another 63% of citizens consider the work of industrial enterprises, 55% — the work of medical institutions, 45% — the work of schools and kindergartens, 29% — flooded streets to be a priority for the reconstruction of Kherson.

Among other things, the people of Kherson mentioned the construction of shelters and bomb shelters (26%), the work of institutions in the service sector (25%), roads (24%), cable Internet (8%) and cultural life (7%).

At the same time, 72% of Kherson residents believe that residential buildings should be restored as a priority among the damaged buildings, 67% believe that medical facilities should be rebuilt first, 47% — schools, kindergartens, universities, 36% — industrial buildings, 18% — shelters and bomb shelters, 15 % — roads.

The research was conducted by the Kherson Community Foundation «Zakhyst» charitable organization within the framework of the «Get Involved» Public Activity Promotion Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact in Ukraine.

The report was compiled based on the results of an online survey based on an interactive structured questionnaire, a link to which was sent to potential respondents from the database of the online research panel of the Kherson community.

The sample was formed on the basis of demographic indicators as of January 1, 2022. With such indicators, the research error does not exceed 5% with a probability of 0.95. The sample includes Kherson residents who are currently in the community, as well as those who left Kherson after February 24, 2022 and are currently in other regions of Ukraine or abroad.

Survey of residents of Mykolaiv in 2024

An analytical survey in 2024 showed that 18% of Mykolaiv residents do not know whether they will leave the city in the event of another Russian offensive to the south, and 43% of Mykolaiv residents believe that things in the city are going in the wrong direction.

Also, the approval rating of the activities of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration decreased from 73% in 2023 to 48% in 2024. And 36% of locals approve of the activities of the Mykolaiv mayor.

After that, the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych reacted to the results of the annual municipal survey. He declared the responsibility of the media for the formation of negative «moods» among the population.

65% of Mykolaiv residents answered that they are interested in information about how much money the local government received for reconstruction and how it was spent. At the same time, the citizens rated the quality of the provided services as average : the state of medicine, protective shelters, the work of the police, hospitals and educational institutions.

Almost half of Mykolaiv residents believe that the economic situation in Ukraine will worsen in the next 12 months.

More than half of Mykolaiv residents surveyed believe that raising wages (43%) and restoring destroyed housing (35%) will help to return citizens who have left Mykolaiv since the start of the full-scale war.
