Due to the Russians undermining the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant, the left bank of the Dnieper will become a «no-life zone» in 3-5 years.

The Mayor of Nova Kakhovka, Volodymyr Kovalenko, told about it on Espresso.

It should be noted that exactly one year ago, on June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP. Volodymyr Kovalenko notes that as of today, on the left bank of the Dnipro, groundwater has fallen by more than 10 meters.

«Today, the consequences are as follows: the left bank is practically dead without water, groundwater has fallen by more than 10 meters, which means that after a certain time — 3-5 years there will be a zone without life, soil salinization will occur, soil scientists say. Today, the river has lost the cheapest transport infrastructure on the left, on the right bank of the reservoir itself and above the Dnieper — these are industrial zones, that is, there is no transport of products on barges. Today, there is not the amount of technical water that would ensure the normal operation of enterprises in Nikopol, Kryvyi Rih, Marganets and so on,» said Volodymyr Kovalenko.

In addition, the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station caused changes in the microclimate of the region.

«That's how the drought was, and the boundaries of the Oleshky Sands will rise, probably all the way to Rohachyk, if there is no water,» added the mayor of Nova Kakhovka.

It was previously reported that after the Russians blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant , it will take ten years to restore natural ecosystems. Specialists from 20 different countries are working on the land restoration program.

We will remind that the Russian occupying forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam on the night of June 6. Because of this, the population was evacuated from dangerous places in the Kherson region.
