Despite the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to start the academic year in August, Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University will start training according to the schedule from September 1.
This was announced by the rector of the university, Leonid Klymenko, on the air of the MART TV channel, NikVesti writes.
As you know, the MES recommends starting the 2024/2025 academic year in the first half of August for educational programs at all levels, with the exception of first-year students. It is also proposed to use Saturdays as working days in the warm months of the year and extend the school year until the end of July 2025.
Leonid Klymenko noted that the university will start studies on the traditional date — September 1, taking into account the realities of Mykolaiv and the university's capabilities. The educational process will begin on September 1 and continue until December 24, after which the Christmas vacation will begin until the end of January. Teachers will have three weeks of vacation in winter and five weeks in summer.
«You are very correct in saying that this is a recommendation. And there are, in addition to this, recommendations to take various measures for energy saving, energy supply, and so on. There are different recommendations. We will work normally, as we work. We will provide heat in the classrooms, light in the classrooms, availability of communication, availability of teachers, availability of students. Therefore, we will move in this way,» Leonid Klymenko reported.
The rector also spoke about the measures taken to ensure the stable functioning of the university in the event of possible power outages. Educational buildings are equipped with boiler rooms with various energy sources, including gas boilers, as well as diesel generators. In addition, to ensure uninterrupted operation of the Internet and computer network, the university switches to the use of laptops and backup power sources.
«They did not have the opportunity to centrally heat the educational buildings, and we also built our own boiler rooms. In the main building, our boiler room relies on two sources of energy: a solid fuel (pellet, — note) powerful boiler and a powerful gas boiler. We can work on a gas boiler, but even if there is no gas, then we start a pilot boiler and a diesel generator. This issue affects not only heating. In order to have uninterrupted communication, we switch to work on laptops, because there is a battery that can pull. Then Wi-Fi and Internet sources at the university will be powered by uninterruptible power supplies and backup gasoline generators. Lighting issue. Indeed, if there is an hourly power outage, we may install solar panels on the flat roof of our main building. Well, we have water, we have already made a well,» said Leonid Klymenko.
We will remind that in 2023, the building of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University was completely restored in Mykolaiv, which was damaged by Russian shelling in August 2022.
As you know, the university was shelled twice by Russian troops in the summer of 2022. Then four Russian S-300 missiles caused the destruction of the main building of the university and caused significant losses to the material and technical base of the university.
During the year, workers eliminated the consequences of Russian shelling, the largest of which caused the destruction of the facade of the main building of the university. Already at the beginning of July 2023, diplomas were awarded to graduates of Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University.
