On Sunday, August 11, the XXIII Olympic Games ended in the capital of France. Athletes are taking home 12 medals to Ukraine.
Three of the won Olympic awards were won by students of Mykolaiv sports, writes NikVesti.
Symbolically, the first medal was brought to Ukraine this year by Mykolaiv fencer Olha Kharlan.
Olga Harlan started the competition with three convincing victories to the semi-finals: over the Japanese Shihomi Fukushima (15:9), the Azerbaijani Anna Bashta (15:6) and the Hungarian Anna Marton (15:7).
In the final, she met with the second number in the world ranking, the Frenchwoman Sarah Balzer, and suffered her fifth defeat in a row — 7:15.
In the «bronze» final, Olha's opponent was Korean Choi Sebin. Mykolaiv athlete won with a score of 15:14.
But this is not Harlan's only medal in Paris. On August 3, in the women's team tournament, she won for her team and the first gold medal for Ukraine.
Another medal — a silver — was won for Ukraine by Parviz Nasibov, a pupil of the Mykolaiv wrestling school.
In the decisive match, Nasibov lost to the Iranian Said Esmaili Livesi (5:6). This is the second Olympic silver in the athlete's career.
The Ukrainian kayaking team came one step closer to an Olympic medal — they took fourth place in the four-man kayak at a distance of 500 meters (K-4). The team from Spain was ahead of the Ukrainian team by 1 second (1:20:05) and took bronze.
Mykolaiv sportsman Oleh Kukharyk also competed as part of the team. In this discipline, Ukraine competed for the first time in the last 28 years.
This Olympiad was the first in the life of Mykolaiv gymnast Valeriia Peremeta. During her performance in the final, she managed to perform an extremely difficult element as part of the Ukrainian national team. However, with a score of 65.700, the team took 7th place.
Danylo Konovalov, another young Mykolaiv, finished his first Olympics in 7th place. Together with Oleh Kolodii, a pupil of the Mykolaiv sports school, their duo scored 348.27 points in synchronized jumping from a 3-meter springboard.
It should be noted that together with Danylo, his personal trainer Olena Bezrukova represented Mykolaiv Oblast.
Oleksii Sereda, a native of Mykolaiv, also failed to get the desired award. At this year's Games, he obtained two licenses, and therefore performed in both synchronized and individual jumps from the 10-meter tower.
In a duet with the Ukrainian Kyrylo Boliukh, they took 5th place. And in the final of individual performances, Oleksii took 8th place. In the total amount for six jumps, he scored 426.90 points — the highest result was shown for the sixth jump with difficulty 3.6 (86.40).
Among the women in this discipline, Kseniia Bailo, a pupil of the Mykolaiv sports school, performed.
In a duet with athlete Sofiia Liskun, they took 7th place at the 2024 Olympic Games.
As a reminder, Ukraine was represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes who competed in 23 sports.
