A shortage of public transport drivers in Mykolaiv: the city council invites pensioners to work

Residents of remote areas of Mykolaiv complained about the problem with public transport in remote areas of the city. Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych replied that men do not want to go to work as drivers because of mobilization.

He said this live, NikVesti writes.

«After 19, it is problematic to get to remote areas, the schedule is not clear, there are not many buses and minibuses either,» wrote the residents of the city.

Oleksandr Sienkevych noted that the problem actually exists, but not in the lack of transport, as Mykolaiv regularly receives new vehicles from partners and puts them into operation.

«During this time, we were able to secure new trolleybuses, new buses from partners, the problem is the drivers. They don't really want to go to work for us, we all understand why, I hope you do too,» said the mayor.

Instead, Oleksandr Sienkevych invited pensioners and women to work as public transport drivers.

«We have official employment, but if there are people of retirement age, you are also invited to work, come, we have vacancies for both trolleybuses and buses. We have training courses for tram and trolleybus drivers, women are also welcome,» said the mayor.

He also emphasized that the utility companies «Mykolaivpastrans» and «Mykolaivelectrotrans» regularly publish schedules of public transport. He also reminded that the movement of vehicles can be monitored through special applications.

«There is the application «CityBus» for those with Android and «EasyWay» for those with iOS. Is it possible to put GPS trainers in minibuses so that they can be seen on the map? Yes, they are in these apps, connect. I will give an order to turn on the GPS trackers for the shuttle buses,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

The problem with personnel as a result of mobilization arose not only in the field of public transport. Today, I also have enough workers in other municipal enterprises of the city, in particular in «Mykolaiv Parks» and «ELU Avtodorih».

We will remind, in November 2023, Norway transferred passenger buses to Mykolaiv. Each of them can accommodate almost 100 people, and they are also adapted for the transportation of people with limited physical capabilities. It was planned that buses would run to the Korabelnyi district.

We will remind that in June, Mykolaiv received a second new trolleybus as part of the resumption of cooperation with the EBRD.

As reported, in July of last year, 18 trolleybuses of KP «Mykolaivelectrotrans» were damaged as a result of shelling.

At the beginning of the year, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, said that in order to transfer the education process in Mykolaiv to an offline format, it is necessary to provide the city with school buses, since some of the institutions were destroyed by the Russians. He noted that Mykolaiv currently lacks public transport, as part of it was handed over to the military, and part was destroyed or damaged by shelling.
