A postcard from the time of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi in 1918 was found in Mykolaiv

A postcard from the time of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi was found in the Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local Lore, depicting a panorama of the Mykolaiv Yacht Club.

This was reported by Yevhen Homoniuk, an expert on cultural development of the Mykolaiv Reconstruction and Development Office.

«Another great find! Mykolaiv postcard from the time of Hetman Pavlo Skoropadskyi in 1918. At first glance, it looks like an ordinary postcard, with a typical view of the Mykolaiv yacht club. But not quite. The naval flag of the Ukrainian State (and today — the Navy of Ukraine) already flies on the flagpole. There are a lot of civilian ladies and military ladies (perhaps German) on the shore,» said Yevhen Homoniuk.

The postcard was discovered during the digitization of the photo archive from the funds of the Mykolaiv Regional Museum of Local History.

«So I hope that this artifact will be included in the updated museum exhibition, and will not be covered with dust in the box of auxiliary funds,» said Yevhen Homoniuk.

He also added that all digitized photos with views of Mykolaiv and portraits of local residents will soon be available to the public on a special website created with the financial support of the Stabilization Fund for Culture and Education 2023 with the participation of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the Goethe-Institut Ukraine.

It will be recalled that Estonia will hand over to Ukraine archaeological artifacts seized during an attempt to illegally import them into the country a few years ago.
