The European Commission approved the financing of five defense projects, each of which will receive 60 million euros.

As reported in the press service of the European Commission, most of the projects include the purchase of defense products for Ukraine, in particular air defense systems (APD) and anti-missile defense (PRO), as well as ammunition.

Joint purchases are aimed at strengthening the defense readiness of EU member states. This is the first time that EU members jointly purchase critical defense products in three areas: air and missile defense, modern armored vehicles and ammunition.

Two projects are aimed at strengthening air defense — «Mistral» and «Jamie». The Edirpa project will support the purchase of armor, and the other two projects will concern ammunition.

As the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said, 20 out of 27 EU members will participate.

«In addition to the selected projects, other promising proposals were submitted and added to the reserve list, which allows them to be identified for possible future funding. For example, member states involved in these proposals may seek to financially support them by transferring unused EU funds allocated to them under shared management,» the message reads.

Earlier, the European Commission reported that Ukraine could become a member of the European Union within the next five years, subject to the implementation of all necessary reforms.
