Mykolaiv needs more than ₴100 million to raise salaries of kindergarten staff

The Mykolaiv Education Department has proposed to introduce municipal allowances for preschool teachers: 5,200 hryvnias for those who work full-time or in a mixed format, and 2,600 hryvnias for those who work remotely.

This proposal was voiced by the head of the Mykolaiv Education Department, Hanna Lychko, today, 23 December, at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Health and Social Protection, according to NikVesti.

According to Hanna Lychko, the calculations were made by analogy with the additional payments for schools provided for by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution №1286. This requires about 109 million hryvnias from the city budget per year.

«According to this resolution, all schools that operate full-time or in a mixed format receive an additional payment of 5,200 hryvnias, and distance learning institutions receive 2,600 hryvnias. We have prepared two calculation options. The first option provides for the establishment of a municipal allowance of 5,200 hryvnias for teachers of preschool institutions who work with children full-time. In this case, the need for a year is 109 million 81 thousand 908 hryvnias. If the allowance is set at 2,600 hryvnias, the annual need to provide the municipal supplement will be 54,540,960 hryvnias. These are the amounts needed for the allowances for employees of preschool education institutions,» explained Hanna Lychko.

Hanna Lychko noted that the salaries of preschool teachers will be financed exclusively from the local budget.

«We would really like our pre-school and out-of-school education institutions to receive the same allowances as general and secondary education institutions from the state budget. The only thing is that we finance the salaries of teachers of pre-school and out-of-school institutions exclusively from the local budget. Therefore, I would like the city council to support the allowances for our teachers,» she added.

In October 2025, the government increased the monthly supplement for teachers from the frontline areas, including Mykolaiv region, to four thousand hryvnias.

According to Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, the increase affected more than 25,000 teachers working in 84 communities in the Dnipro, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions. The additional payment will be calculated from 1 September this year, and teachers will receive it in October for two months at a time.

The Ministry of Education and Science has clarified that teachers working full-time or in a mixed format in hazardous conditions will be paid 5,200 hryvnias before taxes. The amount of the additional payment will depend on the workload. In particular, for those who work overtime, the amount will increase proportionally.
