Italy has allocated 13 million euros to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine on behalf of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, according to European Truth.

The Italian foreign ministry noted that this decision «is an important step in efforts to restore energy systems», which were damaged by Russian attacks.

«Italy's contribution — one of the largest for a single country — will help stabilise the electricity supply to millions of war-affected Ukrainians in this difficult time», the Italian Foreign Ministry said.

With this contribution, Italy confirms its continued support for the resilience of Ukraine's energy sector, the ministry added.

«Italy's commitment to contribute to the Fund comes at a crucial time when attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure continue. This contribution also demonstrates the Fund's ability to quickly provide the equipment that the country so desperately needs», the statement said.

The Energy Support Fund for Ukraine was established at the joint initiative of the Ministry of Energy and the European Commission in spring 2022. The Fund's donors are the public and private sectors from almost all EU countries, the UK and the US, as well as international and regional organisations.

As a reminder, Ukraine will also allocate 10 billion hryvnias for projects to build protection systems around energy facilities.

In addition, in October 2024, Ukraine redirected €86 million as part of a loan from the European Investment Bank to protect and modernise energy infrastructure, including substations.
