In 2025, specialists from the Norwegian international organisation Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) will continue to survey and demine the territories of Mykolaiv region.

According to the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Administration, the experts plan to survey the entire territory of the Shevchenkove and Halytsynove communities.

In addition, they plan to clear more than 2,700 hectares of land in the Halytsynove, Pervomaisk and Shevchenkove communities. It is also planned to re-survey 600 hectares of land to clarify the danger zones.

It should be noted that since March 2023, NPA has already surveyed more than 60,000 hectares of the region, of which more than 3,400 hectares have been identified as contaminated with mines. During this time, 301 hectares have been cleared and more than 12,000 explosives have been defused.

In the Mykolaiv region, the NPA team consists of 11 non-technical survey teams, 21 demining teams, four canine teams, and eight pieces of mechanised equipment.

We remind that Mykolaiv region is still one of the most explosive contaminated areas in Ukraine.

Who will clear Mykolaiv Oblast of mines and when?

The demining of Mykolaiv Oblast, one of the most heavily mined regions of Ukraine, has been going on for more than two years. Since then, more than 20,000 hectares of potentially mined areas have been cleared, but not all areas have been surveyed.

Today, professional deminers continue to work in Mykolaiv region: government units, Ukrainian and foreign companies. While in 2023 the pace of demining in the region was quite fast, in early 2024 it slowed down somewhat.
