In the village of Zmiivka, in the Kherson region, the Russian army destroyed the 19th-century St. Archangel Michael Church, which was once a Swedish Lutheran church and later became an Orthodox church.
Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson regional military administration , published photos of the destroyed St. Michael the Archangel Church.
It is noted that on the afternoon of July 1, the Russians struck the church of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine three times with drones. As a result, a fire broke out.
According to RMA, this is not the first time the church has come under enemy fire.
As the abbot of the church, father Ivan Kvitka, told, in 1989 his grandfather Oleksandr, also a priest, came to Zmiivka. At first, he worshiped in the ruins of the church, and in half a year the church was rebuilt by the community.
«I am saddened to realize that when I have the opportunity to return to Zmiivka and come to the temple, there will no longer be any memories of my childhood there. But I understand that we will have to start from the ruins, like my grandparents, and I believe that the Lord will help us,» the priest said.
We will remind that on Tuesday, July 2, Russian troops once again shelled the Kherson region. As a result of the attack, one person died and 15 were injured.
