The city authorities will also request that the area at the entrances to the city, which is maintained by the regional Restoration Service, be tidied up.
This was discussed on 15 June during a staff meeting at the mayor’s office in Mykolaiv, according to NikVesti.
Oleksandr Sienkevych emphasised the need for urgent tidying up of urban areas, in particular tackling tall grass and dead wood.
The mayor highlighted the serious risks of fires and the danger of arson. Oleksandr Sienkevych paid particular attention to the safety of children, who during the summer holidays may play near thickets where rubbish or dangerous objects are often hidden.
The mayor set the task of ensuring proper cleanliness at all entry points to Mykolaiv.
A specific instruction concerned the approach from the direction of Odesa, particularly the Varvarivka neighbourhood. As part of this area falls under the jurisdiction of the Reconstruction Service in the Mykolaiv region, the mayor instructed that a corresponding request be prepared promptly and sent to the agency.
«I know that the area is not only ours but also falls under the jurisdiction of the Restoration Service in the Mykolaiv region, so please prepare a request to them to ensure that the entrance to our city is also mown, clean and attractive,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
In addition, the mayor emphasised that the condition of all key thoroughfares — the approaches to the city from the direction of Kyiv, Bashtanka and Kherson — must be brought up to standard.
It was previously reported that residents of Mykolaiv had complained about overgrown grass around residential buildings and on children’s playgrounds in various parts of the city. Residents are asking the municipal services to mow the weeds, clear away rubbish and tidy up the courtyards. The municipal enterprise «Mykolaiv Parks» stated at the time that management companies and homeowners’ associations were responsible for this.
