Novo-Odesa is to provide €500,000 in co-funding.
Councillors adopted the relevant decision at a session of the Nova Odesa City Council on 12 June, according to NikVesti.
On the eve of the session, at a joint meeting of the committees, Deputy Mayor Ihor Zhurba announced that Denmark would provide funding through the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO). The grant will amount to 4.5 million euros.
«This grant provides for the modernisation and reconstruction of our water supply system, namely the construction of a new pumping station, the replacement of all pumping equipment, the construction of two drinking water reservoirs, water treatment facilities, an additional borehole, the refurbishment of our boreholes, namely the construction of a sanitary protection zone, fencing, CCTV, and the installation of solar panels at the pumping station itself, as well as at the boreholes,» said the deputy mayor.
Ihor Zhurba also clarified that the work will be carried out in such a way as to avoid cutting off the city’s water supply. The city council is to allocate 500,000 euros in co-financing.
During the session, it was clarified that NEFCO will pay the contractors.
«This grant of 4.5 million euros, provided to us by Denmark, will not go directly into the city council’s budget. NEFCO will itself pay these funds directly to contractors through tender procedures in accordance with European legislation,» said the deputy mayor of Nova Odesa.
Councillors supported the decision to secure the grant.
It should be noted that Bashtanka City Council has also approved the use of a grant from the Kingdom of Denmark, channelled through NEFCO, for a project to restore the water supply and wastewater treatment systems in Bashtanka. The grant amounts to 5.5 million euros.
Denmark, via NEFCO, has allocated 1.5 million euros to Domanivka for the reconstruction of the external water supply network. The tender has already been announced.
