In Mykolaiv, there are plans to spend nearly ₴2.4 million on the purchase of 45 batteries for 19 educational establishments. The aim is to upgrade the existing emergency power supply systems in the city’s schools and nurseries.
The relevant tender was announced by the Mykolaiv City Council’s Department of Education, according to data from the Prozorro public procurement system.
The bulk of the funding — over 2.3 million hryvnias — is being provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). A further 47,000 hryvnias is earmarked from the local budget.
According to the tender documentation, the Education Department plans to purchase 41 lithium-iron-phosphate batteries with a capacity of 5.12 kWh and a further four batteries with a usable capacity of 4.56 kWh. The equipment must be compatible with the hybrid inverters and batteries already installed in educational establishments.
The new batteries will enable electricity to be stored for later use during power cuts. This does not involve installing new backup power systems, but rather expanding the capabilities of the existing equipment.
The batteries will be installed in three nurseries — Nos. 112, 143 and 148 — as well as 16 schools across the city. These include secondary schools Nos. 2, 19, 34, 38, 42, 53, 55 and 58, Gymnasiums Nos. 4, 11, 31, 36, 54, 56 and 57, and the «Academy of Children’s Creativity» Lyceum.
Depending on the institution, between two and three batteries will be supplied. The largest number — three each — will be received by nursery schools Nos. 143 and 148, grammar schools Nos. 36 and 56, lyceums Nos. 53 and 55, and the «Academy of Children’s Creativity».
Under the terms of the tender, the supplier must deliver and unload the equipment directly at the educational establishments by 15 December 2026.
Bids from tenderers will be accepted until 21 November. The winner will be selected on the basis of price.
It was previously reported that plans were in place to purchase 17 sets of inverters with rechargeable batteries for schools and nurseries. These will be installed in shelters, classrooms and premises where autonomous heating systems are in operation.
At the time, the Education Department explained to NikVesti that the equipment was needed to ensure the institutions could continue operating during power cuts. In particular, the inverters are intended to provide power to shelters, internet connections and autonomous heating systems.
According to the Education Department, 43 nurseries and 48 schools currently operating on a face-to-face or blended basis have already been fitted with inverters and batteries. These help to keep the shelters running and partially ensure internet access during power cuts.
