Mykolaiv unveils «City of Heroes» stamp featuring NikVesti photo during special redemption ceremony

On Monday, September 9, as part of the all-Ukrainian campaign by Ukrposhta, a special redemption ceremony for the «City of Heroes.Mykolaiv» stamp took place on Soborna Square.

This was reported by the correspondent of NikVesti.

As the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych noted, the new stamp is a reminder to Ukrainians about the importance of the defense of Mykolaiv.

«It is very important that today during the war we issue such a stamp, because it is not just a sticker on an envelope, it is part of our military culture. But it is very important that we once again remind all Ukrainians about the importance of protecting Mykolaiv. It is difficult to exaggerate the role of every citizen of Mykolaiv who played a role in the defense of the city,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

General Director of «Ukrposhta» Ihor Smilianskyi came to Mykolaiv for the special redemption of the new postage stamp.

«I think that the brand we chose today testifies to Mykolaiv's feat. I think all residents of the south are grateful to Mykolaiv for that feat, for the fact that they stood in the way of the enemy and gave the opportunity to save the south of Ukraine,» he said.

Mykola Marinov, deputy head of the Mykolaiv city administration, and Volodymyr Ocheretiuk, director of development of the Ukrposhta network in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, were also trained in the special repayment procedure.

«I vividly remember the evening when we found out that the city was awarded the title of hero city, it was a great elation, and in fact, Mykolaiv is a city of heroes. I have never seen such unity, such dedication of everyone. Of course, this applies not only to the city of Mykolaiv, but also to other cities that represent the defense of Mykolaiv, including Bashtanka, which burned down so much enemy equipment, and Voznesensk, which stopped the movement of enemy troops in the south,» Mykola Marinov said.

The participants of the special repayment left their signatures and surnames on the envelopes and carried out the procedure of stamping the envelopes with the stamp «First day. City of heroes. Mykolaiv».

The postage stamp depicts the building of Mykolaiv RMA after being hit by a Russian missile on March 29, 2022, and on the margins of the stamp sheet there is a monument to St. Nicholas. The envelope shows protective fortifications made of tires near the building of the former first tram substation of Mykolaiv.

The authors of these pictures were NikVesti journalist Olena Naraivska, as well as Dmytro Skorokhodov and Yevhen Zahorodnii. The stamp was designed by Volodymyr Taran.

During the special redemption ceremony, Ukrposhta General Director Ihor Smilyanskyi said that most of the money collected from the sale of stamps goes to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

«The stamp has become a symbol of resistance, but the figures of more than 40 million hryvnias collected from the sale of stamps for drones, for equipment that we cannot even talk about, for marine drones, speak best. These are not just stamps, they are stamps thanks to which funds are collected, in particular, for the Armed Forces. By the way, an interesting fact, the most popular brand in terms of sales is «Good evening, we are from Ukraine». A stamp that sold even more than the first stamp with a ship. She collected more than 10 million hryvnias, most of which went to drones,» said Ihor Smilyanskyi.

Note that on the stamp «Good evening, we are from Ukraine!» The depicted episode that happened in the Mykolaiv region: a Ukrainian tractor pulled a tank abandoned by the Russians.
