Implementation of the project to restore water supply in Mykolaiv will cost 25 million euros.
This was announced by the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych after an online meeting with representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, according to the Backstage journalistic project.
«We talked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development regarding the project to restore water supply in Mykolaiv. It is divided into several parts: one of them is located in Mykolaiv, the others are on the right bank of the Dnipro River. Actually, the cost of the project is about 25 million euros, of which 15 million euros are grant funds from the Clean Technologies Fund and the Danish Danida Foundation,» Oleksandr Sienkevych said.
He also added that the city council does not have access to funds allocated to Mykolaiv by European partners, and all projects are taken care of by donors.
«It is very important to say, because when our people hear about money, they immediately say: «but they will steal everything.» From the first day of cooperation, we do not use the money of our European partners. They check documentation, announce tenders, make purchases and hire technical supervision abroad. That is, within the framework of our European cooperation, the Mykolaiv Executive Committee or the Mykolaiv communal enterprises do not take any part in any way. We only monitor the quality of the work and say what we need,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
We will remind you that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is currently personally dealing with the issue of restoring the supply of drinking water to Mykolaiv.
Earlier, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaly Kim, called for informational silence regarding the issue of restoring the supply of drinking water to the residents of Mykolaiv.
At a briefing on June 6, 2023, the head of the Mykolaiv RMA said that the water quality in Mykolaiv should improve in 10 days. In his opinion, raising the level of rivers from which water is taken for Mykolaiv should have a positive effect on water quality.
After that, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated 120 million hryvnias to provide the residents of Mykolaiv with drinking water. On this occasion, the Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv, Vitalii Lukov, said that three possible options for supplying water to the city are currently being considered. At the same time, he added that until the end of hostilities in the south, Mykolaiv will not be able to restore a full supply of drinking water.
In July 2023, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, expressed hope that drinking water would flow from the taps in Mykolaiv residents' apartments in a month. However, this did not happen — the mayor reported problems with water supply in Kryvyi Rih after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.
