Former Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko has said that if the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO disappears, the country will defend itself against the Russian threat by all means possible.
He said this in an interview with UNIAN, commenting on the words of US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg that Ukraine's chance of returning nuclear weapons «is somewhere between small and zero».
The diplomat says that the Ukrainian side is not satisfied with ending the war at any cost — that is, at the expense of Ukraine itself.
«And as for nuclear weapons, we have all the necessary conditions to ensure that at least «dirty» nuclear weapons end up in Ukrainian hands. This is not something that the US and Russia currently possess, but it can be a deterrent. They are freaking out there (in Russia, — note), but we have to think about our security», says Volodymyr Ohryzko.
As a reminder, US Special Representative Keith Kellogg has rejected the possibility of Ukraine returning its nuclear weapons status.
