The Mykolaiv City Council's Capital Construction Department has identified the security component as a priority for its work in 2025. The plan is to build seven new shelters in schools and kindergartens, and overhaul three more in hospitals.

This was reported by the director of the department, Oleksii Savchuk, in the article NikVesti «What will the reconstruction of Mykolaiv look like in 2025?».

«About 10 are new shelters in educational institutions and one in a sports school. Another three are major repairs to city hospitals: №1, №3 and the Emergency Medical Care Hospital (EMC). Project documentation is currently being developed there, and this year we will announce the procurement of construction works,» explained Oleksii Savchuk.

Along with the shelters, 17 fire alarm systems are also going to be installed in educational institutions and hospitals, although there is no money for this yet.

«As of today, we have funded the design work so far. The money has not yet been allocated for the actual work. We will either reallocate our existing funds or request additional funding from the budget. Our goal is also to attract a subvention from the state budget — if we succeed, it will be very good,» said Oleksii Savchuk.

As a reminder, Mykolaiv Oblast is among the three regions where the most school shelters have been built under the «School Offline programme».

Where is full-time education available in Mykolaiv region?

More than 300 schools in Mykolaiv region wanted to start full-time or mixed education. However, after specialised inspections, their number was halved.

In Mykolaiv region, 57 schools were allowed to work offline. Most of them are schools in Voznesensk and Pervomaisk districts. In addition, 94 schools operate in a mixed mode, meaning that children study offline in a certain order, for example, week after week. Another 277 educational institutions operate online.

The offline learning process was also organised in the frontline town of Ochakiv, where a mixed form of education is in place.

According to the monitoring of the Mykolaiv City Council's Education Department, 65% of schoolchildren want to study full-time.
