The European Investment Bank plans to help Mykolaiv either with the reconstruction of destroyed housing or with the construction of new social housing.

This was stated in a commentary to NikVesti by Kristina Mikulova, Head of the European Investment Bank's Eastern Europe Regional Centre, and French Ambassador to Ukraine Gael Veyer during their visit to Mykolaiv.

«Housing is also a big priority for the next year. This can be the repair of destroyed houses, or the construction of social housing. You may already know that the Ministry of Development will have a pilot programme for social housing. We also expect the government to decide as soon as possible that we will start working. This is also a priority of the European Union and the European Commission,» said Kristina Mikulova.

After that, the French Ambassador to Ukraine, Gael Veyer, stressed the need to rebuild the destroyed housing in his comments to us.

«In November 2022, my deputy visited here and also assessed the need to restore housing and rebuild buildings damaged by the bombing. I know that considerable efforts had already been made. Now it is a common task for all of us to strengthen them even more to continue this work,» said Gael Weser.

What's the status of the reconstruction of buildings in Mykolaiv?

In 2024, it was planned to spend 45 million hryvnias from the Mykolaiv budget to restore damaged or destroyed apartment buildings, while in 2023, 40 million hryvnias were allocated for this purpose.

The first multi-storey building in Mykolaiv damaged by shelling was repaired at the expense of the city budget in July 2023. It was a building on Krylova Street that was hit by a Russian missile in the summer of 2022.

At the end of the year, the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Mykolaiv City Council reported that in 2023, four residential apartment buildings that had been damaged by shelling by Russian troops had been overhauled.

After that, the Department of Housing and Communal Services announced a tender for the restoration of a five-storey building in the centre of Mykolaiv, which was destroyed by a Russian missile in autumn 2022. Subsequently, NikVesti showed how the process of its restoration is going.

And in April 2024, the Department of Housing and Communal Services announced another tender for the overhaul of a high-rise building at 132 Kosmonavtiv Street in Mykolaiv. Three other buildings awaiting reconstruction are those at 2 Aliaudy, 61 Raiduzhna and 142 B Kosmonavtiv.

At the same time, the city council supported the allocation of funds from the Mykolaiv budget for technical inspections of private houses affected by the war.

NikVesti also found out why residents of some destroyed high-rise buildings in Mykolaiv refuse to dismantle them and what will happen to the houses in the future in the article «The problem of restoring houses in Mykolaiv: what has changed in six months?».
