Mykolaiv region is in talks with a South Korean company to build a four-lane motorway connecting Mykolaiv with Odesa.

This was stated by the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, in an interview with «Ukrinform».

Answering a journalist's question about large-scale projects that are planned to be implemented in the Mykolaiv region in the near future, Vitalii Kim mentioned the project to expand the M-14 highway to four lanes:

«We are currently negotiating with a South Korean company on the construction of a four-lane highway to Odesa, and the issues of industrial parks have already been worked out... We are proud to have defended our city, and there are many people who want improvements for our region. But everything rests on the end of the war so that we can start developing Mykolaiv region,» he said.

What do you know about the expansion of the Mykolaiv-Odesa motorway to 4 lanes?

In 2020, the head of the «Servant of the People» parliamentary faction, David Arakhamiia, said that the section of the M-14 highway from Mykolaiv to Odesa would be expanded to four lanes. Funding for the project will be provided in the state budget for 2021.

He noted that the expansion of the highway will reduce the number of accidents on the «Mykolaiv-Odesa» section, which has a reputation as «the road of death».

In September 2021, the heads of Mykolaiv, Odesa and Kherson regional state administrations appealed to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to expand the M-14 highway to four lanes.

Already in December 2021, answering questions from journalists, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Vitalii Kim, said that he wanted to be remembered by the residents of the region for the implemented infrastructure projects, such as the four-lane road to Odesa.

In December 2024, at a briefing, Vitalii Kim said that the project to build a new four-lane road to connect Mykolaiv with Odesa had been suspended. According to him, the implementation of this and other major projects in the region has been put on hold due to lack of funding and the current security situation.
