In Mykolaiv, they plan to create a perinatal center worth 148 million hryvnias on the basis of the communal non-profit enterprise «Maternity House No. 3».

This is stated in the Program of Economic and Social Development of the Mykolaiv Oblast for 2024, adopted during the session of the regional council on December 14, NikVesti writes.

The project envisages the creation of a center with the II level of medical care with a concentration of obstetric-gynecological-neonatal care.

They want to spend 148 million hryvnias on the construction of the center. Funding will be raised from the local budget and sources not prohibited by law.

Work on the establishment of the institution will continue in the period from 2024 to 2027.

It is worth noting that the Program of Economic and Social Development of the Mykolaiv Region for 2024 does not provide for the mandatory restoration or reconstruction of the objects specified in it. Currently, we are talking about the plans of the regional government, since in order to carry out work on the objects listed in the program, funds must first be allocated from the regional budget or other sources of funding.

We will remind that in December 2021, it became known that in Mykolaiv, on the basis of maternity hospital No. 3, the room for children's resuscitation is being renovated. It is still necessary to purchase special equipment and equip an intensive care unit for newborns.

In May 2023, the Mykolaiv Department of Health Care assured that today the city is confidently moving towards the formation of a perinatal center. Currently, funds have already been allocated from the budget for the implementation of priority works.

At present, work on the creation of a single perinatal center continues in Mykolaiv. Starting next year, they plan to equip an office there and install equipment for conducting mammographic examinations for women.

Also, in Mykolaiv, they are working on the creation of a children's diagnostic center, which involves an institution where all the necessary equipment and specialists will be assembled for a complete medical examination of children.

It is worth reminding that on July 31, 2023, the Mykolaiv City Council made a decision to reorganize maternity hospitals No. 1 and No. 2 — they were attached to City Hospital No. 1 and City Hospital No. 3, respectively. The head of the city's health care department, Iryna Shamrai, explaining the need to reorganize medical facilities, stated that over the past 7 years, the number of pregnant women in Mykolaiv has decreased 5 times.

The city authorities plan to keep one maternity hospital in the city for almost half a million residents — No. 3, which is located in the Lisky microdistrict in the Factory district of Mykolaiv.

42 people were laid off due to the actual liquidation of maternity hospital No. 2 in Mykolaiv.

The staff of the maternity hospital No. 2 in Mykolaiv considers the decision of the city authorities to actually liquidate and preserve only one specialized medical facility in the city to be erroneous.

In January 2022, a blogger from Mykolaiv told about the cost of «free» childbirth in maternity hospital No. 3: 10,000 hryvnias for a cesarean section, 8,000 hryvnias for a natural birth. The cost of a regular ward was also mentioned — 580 hryvnias per day, but there is also one for 2,500 hryvnias per day at prices as of the beginning of 2022.

It should be noted that the state also guarantees free childbirth in Ukraine. In December 2021, Minister of Health Viktor Liashko announced that the National Health Service of Ukraine would compensate for one birth 15,101 hryvnias under the medical guarantee program. According to the E-Health system, the Mykolaiv Maternity Hospital No. 3 received 43 million 125 thousand 99 hryvnias under this program in 2021.
