In Pervomaisk, the deputies did not have enough votes to rename the city to Olviopol

In Pervomaisk, the deputies did not have enough votes to change the name to Olviopol. Also, the deputies could not vote to keep the old name.

This became known during the session of the Pervomaisk City Council on Thursday, December 21.

As noted in the local publication Hard.City, the deputies at the session «admitted that there were practically no public discussions». They tried to vote for the name Olviopol, which received the largest number of votes during voting on the official pages of the executive committee of the Pervomaisk City Council. However, 13 deputies voted «for» the new name, the number of votes was not enough to make a decision.

The deputies also tried to vote for an appeal to the Verkhovna Rada with a request to keep the name Pervomaisk for the duration of martial law, but they also did not have enough votes.

The issue remained unresolved. On Friday, December 22, the deputies should continue the session. Maybe this issue will be discussed again.

It is worth noting that the deputies must decide on proposals for the new name of the city by December 27 and send them to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

We would like to remind you that based on the results of the voting, six names of leaders were determined, which were presented to the public for discussion in social networks:

  • Bohoslavsk,
  • Olviopol,
  • Bohopol,
  • Holta,
  • Olvia,
  • Orlyk.

As of December 15, taking into account the results obtained from the official pages of the executive committee of the Pervomaisk city council: on the website, in the Facebook and Telegram networks, a total of 2,478 people voted. And the largest number of votes, namely 915, was given by the residents of the community for Olviopol.

We remind that the Mykolaiv Oblast is recommended to revise the names of the cities of Pervomaisk, Yuzhnoukrainsk and 57 villages due to non-compliance with the standards of the state language.

After that, public discussions about renaming the city started in Pervomaisk. The townspeople were asked to choose a name from five proposed options: Olviopol, Bohopol and Holta, Olvia or Pershotravensk. The survey continues until September 26. Olviopol received the most votes so far.
