As of August 22, 2024, all damaged objects of critical infrastructure were restored in the Mykolaiv region. However, the head of Mykolaiv RMA Vitalii Kim announced repeated works.

He said this on the air of the telethon Edyni Novyny.

Vitalii Kim noted that critical infrastructure facilities were restored quickly. Currently, the regional authorities are communicating with the government and international donors regarding capital repairs at such facilities.

«We have restored 100% of the critical infrastructure, but now we are asking the government and international partners to help make capital repairs. Because we restored some objects in an urgent manner, and now we want to restore them capitally. That is, we will once again restore the critical infrastructure so that it will be for a long time,» he said.

In general, according to the head of the RMA, 37% of the total number of objects damaged by Russian shelling were rebuilt in Mykolaiv Oblast.

Restoration of the Mykolaiv Oblast

As of February 2024, more than 30% of infrastructure facilities in the Mykolaiv region have been restored. Hospitals and bridges are the most, and the residential sector is the least.

This year, the Mykolaiv region received 1.2 billion hryvnias for the implementation of four projects for the restoration of the region. Among the objects are the reconstruction of six sections of the waterworks in Mykolaiv, the restoration of the historical building of the Mykolaiv Gymnasium №2, the reconstruction of the Bashtanka multidisciplinary hospital, and the restoration of the destroyed building of the Mykolaiv Lyceum №60 in Varvarivka.

And last year, the Service for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure in the Mykolaiv Oblast concluded contracts for restoration and repair of facilities for 7.8 billion hryvnias. This is the fourth place in Ukraine in terms of the amount of auctions.

This year, they plan to start work on the restoration of Mykolaiv airport, which was destroyed at the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Prior to that, 789 million hryvnias were allocated from the state budget for the reconstruction of 16 objects damaged by shelling in Mykolaiv region within the framework of the fund for liquidation of the consequences of armed aggression. During the inspections, the State Audit Service found a number of violations in tender purchases for some of them.

In August, during a briefing, the head of RMA Vitalii Kim reported that almost all bridges in the Mykolayiv region had been restored. In particular, on August 9, the restored bridge, which was destroyed in 2022, was officially opened in the city of Voznesensk.

Postwar reconstruction of Mykolaiv

Currently, it is known that about 60% of the aid that Denmark sends to Ukraine goes to Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region.

At the annual forum of the publishing house «Legal Practice» Business & Legal Infrastructure Forum, the ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine announced the vision of the post-war reconstruction of Mykolaiv with friendly conditions for pedestrians and bicycle infrastructure.

While in Mykolaiv, the ambassador explained that after the end of the full-scale war, Denmark would help Mykolaiv to restore and modernize its shipbuilding capacity.

In addition, Denmark will rebuild the Lyceum named after Mykola Arkas while preserving its authentic appearance. As of September 2023, Ukrainian architects presented Ole Egberg Mikkelsen with reconstruction options.

Another educational institution that will be rebuilt by the Danes is Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUK). The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen is sure that this will revive Mykolaiv as a «city of shipbuilding».

The ambassador also supported the idea of creating a Danish quarter or park in Mykolaiv, but today this issue remains at the idea stage.
