In Ukraine, as of October 4, farmers harvested 56.6 million tons of new crops from an area of 15.8 million hectares. Odesa, Poltava and Vinnytsia are the leaders in terms of gross grain harvest.

This was announced by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitalii Koval.

«Harvest is on schedule and with good results. This is important because, despite the war, the food security of Ukraine is also the food security of the planet,» he wrote.

In particular, 37.3 million tons of grain were harvested, 5.8 million tons of oilseeds, and 3.5 million tons of sugar beet.

It is noted that 100% of wheat, barley, peas and rapeseed areas have been threshed. Harvesting of millet and buckwheat is currently being completed. Corn, sunflower and soybean threshing continues.

The leaders in terms of gross harvest of grain are the agricultural producers of Odesa — 4.2 million tons, Poltava — 3.3 million tons, and Vinnytsia — 2.6 million tons.

In terms of grain yield, the best indicators are among Khmelnytskyi farmers — 64.3 t/ha, followed by agricultural producers in Bukovyna — 61.3 t/ha and Ivano-Frankivsk region — 59 t/ha.

How does the agricultural sector work in the Mykolaiv region?

At the beginning of March, twelve regions in Ukraine have already started sowing spring cereals — wheat, barley, peas and oats. Among them is the Mykolayiv region.

This year, in the 2024 sowing campaign, the agrarians of the Mykolaiv region used the lands that were flooded as a result of the Russian troops undermining the Kakhovka HPP. The head of Mykolaiv Oblast noted that the farmers of Mykolaiv region began to grow more technical crops due to blocked ports and problems with logistics.

It should be noted that the agricultural producers of the Mykolaiv region, who suffered losses after flooding due to an explosion at the Kakhovka HPP, received compensation from the state in the amount of 1.5 billion hryvnias.

In addition, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) selected 29 agricultural producers from the Voznesensk district of the Mykolaiv region, who will receive modular grain storage facilities for storing their products.

In 2023, the production of agricultural products in the Mykolaiv region, compared to 2022, increased by 24%.

During 2023, the Mykolaiv region exported 2.3 million tons of grain and leguminous crops.

In general, the losses of Mykolaiv Oblast farmers due to the full-scale war amounted to 5.5 billion dollars.
