In the temporarily occupied Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region, the problem with stray animals is worsening. The occupation administration has canceled the program to sterilize street cats and dogs, and there is also a problem with rabies vaccines.
This was reported by the resistance movement «Yellow Ribbon».
It is stated that the program to sterilize street cats and dogs has been in operation since 2020, but has now been canceled. It is also reported that the Russians are making it difficult for animal shelters to operate by refusing to recognize Ukrainian permits and prohibiting volunteer fundraising to support them.
In addition, local veterinary hospitals have faced a shortage of rabies vaccines. Activists say that to get such vaccinations, Nova Kakhovka residents have to travel to occupied Crimea or even to Russian territory.
It was previously reported that the Municipal Enterprise «Animal Protection Center» of the city council plans to repair animal enclosures in Mykolaiv.
