During 2024, explosive experts from the Mykolaiv police examined more than 67 hectares of land in the de-occupied territories, seizing almost six thousand rounds of ammunition and about three tonnes of explosives.
This was reported by the National Police of Mykolaiv region.
It is noted that explosive experts performed tasks in the liberated territories, checking the sites after shelling, neutralising dangerous objects and responding to reports of suspicious findings.
Over the year, they made 139 visits to the sites of incidents, where they seized and defused more than 500 pieces of ammunition and explosive devices.
Among the items seized in 2024:
- 5782 pieces of ammunition, including artillery shells, hand grenades and grenades for anti-personnel grenade launchers;
- 715 engineering mines;
- 592 rocket-propelled grenades;
- almost 3 tonnes of explosives.
«During the full-scale war with Russia, the occupiers have dotted Ukrainian lands with dangerous objects. Therefore, police explosive experts have to deal with the danger every day», the statement said.
The police urge citizens to be careful:
- Do not approach the wreckage of drones, missiles or shells, as they may contain explosives or hazardous chemicals;
- do not touch or move suspicious objects;
- Do not attempt to disassemble the found wreckage for scrap metal.
If you find suspicious items, immediately report them to «101» or «102».
Who will demine Mykolaiv region and when?
Mine clearance in Mykolaiv region, one of the most heavily mined regions of Ukraine, has been underway for over two years. Since then, more than 20,000 hectares of potentially mined areas have been cleared, but not all areas have been surveyed.
Today, professional deminers continue to work in Mykolaiv region: government units, Ukrainian and foreign companies. While in 2023 the pace of demining in the region was quite fast, in early 2024 it slowed down somewhat.
