Firefighting at the Ch-rnobyl nuclear power plant (ChNPP) has been suspended after a Russian drone strike. Experts are currently monitoring the situation.
This was reported by the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM).
As of Monday, 17 February, work to eliminate the consequences of a Russian drone strike on the Chornobyl NPP continues. The situation is currently being monitored using a UAV with a thermal imager.
«As of 07:00, firefighting operations have been suspended, but this does not mean that they have been completed. There are no open foci of membrane smouldering, and the situation is being monitored using a UAV with a thermal imager», the statement said.
It is indicated that six employees and two units of SES equipment were involved in the work. The air temperature in the morning was -15°C.
«No deterioration of the radiation situation was recorded at the NSC-OU industrial site and ChNPP in general. No release of radioactive products beyond the established limits was detected», the agency added.
As a reminder, on the night of 14 February, a Russian attack drone hit a shelter over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
As reported, in June last year, the Verkhovna Rada ratified a framework agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the operation of the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl.
