The government has allocated 500 million hryvnias to modernise science classrooms in schools.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announces the allocation of 500 million hryvnias to upgrade science classrooms in preparation for the reform of specialised high schools.

According to the Ministry, the funds will be used to purchase modern educational equipment, teaching aids and new furniture for biology, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry and STEM laboratories. The funding will be provided from the balance of the educational subvention as of 1 January 2025.

«The creation of well-equipped classrooms is an important step in the implementation of the high school reform. Starting in 2027, students will be able to choose study profiles and relevant subjects according to their interests and vision of the future,» the Ministry said.

It is noted that communal schools that

  • provide training in a mixed or full-time format;
  • are ready to provide specialised secondary education in the 2027/2028 academic year.

The decision to allocate funds will be made by local councils and regional military administrations. They will select one school in each region that is most in need of renovation and submit applications. In Kyiv, the city military administration will have the right to propose up to ten schools.

The applications will be reviewed by a special commission consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation. The main selection criterion will be the urgent need for modernisation of educational institutions.

As a reminder, four general secondary education institutions in Mykolaiv region were included in the list of schools that will take part in the Ministry of Education's pilot project to strengthen the security of the educational environment.
