Trump reinstates programme to track Ukrainian children abducted by Russia

США тимчасово відновили програму для відстеження українських дітей викрадених РосієюUS temporarily resumes programme to track Ukrainian children abducted by Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to temporarily resume the work of an American initiative that documents Russian war crimes, including the deportation of children from Ukraine.

This was reported by The Washington Post.

The publication notes that this step was a response to the public outcry after the publication of the article about the closure of the programme.

The Conflict Observatory programme collected information on the illegal export of Ukrainian children to Russia from the temporarily occupied territories. For this purpose, satellite images, biometric data and other digital tools were used. The collected materials became the basis for criminal cases, in particular, they helped the International Criminal Court issue an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin.

It is noted that the programme will be resumed and funded for another six weeks. During this time, those involved in the tracking must pass on all the information collected to EU law enforcement agencies to help prosecute crimes in Ukraine and abroad.

Earlier it was reported that the United States is discussing the possibility of returning Ukrainian children who were forcibly taken to Russia as one of the key steps to build trust between the parties.
