Mykolaiv plans to engage the Development Agency and international partners to renovate the premises of Music School №8, which also houses Gymnasium №12 and a cycling school.
This was discussed on Thursday, 12 March, during a session of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.
According to Mykolaiv City Council deputy Olena Kiseliova, the premises of Music School №8 currently house three municipal institutions: the music school itself, Gymnasium №12, and a children's and youth cycling sports school. Despite the fact that the first floor of the building has been renovated and the facility has been equipped with a bomb shelter, the condition of the surrounding area remains unsatisfactory.
«Now it houses not only the music school, but also Gymnasium №12 and the cycling school. We once renovated the first floor. A bomb shelter has been built, but the courtyard needs to be tidied up. I understand that there are no funds allocated in this year's budget, so I ask that the Development Agency or those involved in grants be involved in developing a grant project for improvement. Street toilets, which should be designated as architectural monuments, require special attention,» said Olena Kiseliova.
Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych supported this initiative, acknowledging that the conditions for children are currently unacceptable.
«I visited this facility in the autumn. Indeed, it is necessary to pave the front and rear courtyards, where educational institutions are located. And there is indeed a problem with the fact that the toilet for the cycling sports school is still located on the street,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
In addition, the issue of restoring a full-fledged educational process for Gymnasium №12 was discussed. Currently, the institution is operating in a limited mode on the basis of a music school due to the lack of its own bomb shelter.
«And in the context of this issue regarding Gymnasium №12. I ask that Deputy Mayor Anatoliy Petrov and Head of the Education Department Hanna Lychko provide clarification on how we will proceed with the possibility of building a bomb shelter on the school grounds, or how the institution will move out of the music school premises and resume normal classes. I think that, given that there is another building on the school grounds, a project needs to be developed and a solution found. If not, then we will understand that this will never happen,» said Olena Kiseliova.
We will remind you that the director of Children's Music School №5 in Mykolaiv, Larysa Stoliarova, said that the institution is reducing teaching hours and bonuses for teachers.
In turn, Yurii Liubarov, head of culture at the Mykolaiv City Council, explained in a comment to NikVesti that due to the city's budget shortfall, the work plans of all cultural institutions, including libraries, palaces of culture, houses of culture and art schools, are being adjusted.
He said that due to the lack of funds in the Mykolaiv budget, cultural institutions will receive about 40% of their salaries for February and March.
