In Mykolaiv, a mother left a note next to her child, who was found in the «Baby Hatch». The boy was well cared for. The woman wrote that she was facing difficult circumstances.

This was reported today, 26 March, during a meeting of the Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.

As a reminder, on 24 March, a child was left in the «Baby Hatch» at City Children’s Hospital №2.

At the session, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych commented on the situation.

«This week, a boy was brought to one of our ‘baby hatches’ by his mother, who left a note saying she was facing difficult circumstances and asking for him to be looked after. There is no condemnation here. We did not find this child in a rubbish bin, or in a river, or anywhere else. The child was well-cared-for and brought to the ‘Baby Hatch’ so that he could live and become a good member of society: perhaps he will discover a cure for cancer or fly to Mars,» said the mayor.

As a reminder, a woman who leaves a child in the «Baby Hatch» faces no criminal liability. If, within two months, the parents change their minds and the child has not yet been adopted, they can reclaim it.

As a reminder, in January 2026, a newborn baby was found in a rubbish bin in Mykolaiv. The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm on Lazurna Street in the Namyv neighbourhood.

Later, the health department reported that the baby found in a rubbish bin in Mykolaiv was in a stable condition and was under medical supervision in the neonatal ward of the regional children’s clinical hospital.
