Five hospitals in the Mykolaiv region are performing joint replacement surgery: around 300 patients are on the waiting list in the city

Joints for endoprosthetics are currently available in Mykolaiv. Operations are being performed in five hospitals. However, there is a waiting list.

This was announced during a briefing by Iryna Shamrai, head of the Mykolaiv City Council’s Health Department, according to NikVesti.

The head of the Health Department was asked whether it is possible to be on the waiting list for knee replacement surgery at two hospitals simultaneously. Iryna Shamray replied that this is a matter for the Ministry of Health.

Currently, knee replacement surgery is performed in five hospitals in Mykolaiv: the Regional Clinical Hospital, the War Veterans’ Hospital, and three municipal hospitals: Municipal Hospital №5, the Emergency Medical Care Hospital, and Municipal Hospital №3. Iryna Shamrai noted that patients can join the waiting list by consulting a GP and then obtaining a referral to the hospital.

«I would like to say that at the moment there are 72 people on the waiting list at City Hospital №3, 179 patients at Hospital №5, and 31 patients at the Emergency Medical Care Hospital. You choose a doctor and a hospital, and they add you to the electronic waiting list with a referral,» said the head of the health department.

According to her, around 400 prosthetic procedures were carried out last year.

«Joints are currently in stock. You will be operated on within a month to a month and a half, depending on the queue,» replied Iryna Shamrai.

As a reminder, a prosthetics and orthotics workshop was due to open at the 4th City Hospital in Mykolaiv by the end of 2025. The city has received the necessary equipment from German partners, and specialists have already undergone training.
