Lieutenant General Yuriy SodolPresident of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he decided to replace the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol.
He stated this in his evening video address.
According to President Yurii Sodol, he will be replaced by Brigadier General Andrii Hnatov.
«I have decided to replace the commander of the United Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol, with Brigadier General Andrii Hnatov,» the head of state emphasized.
Who is Yurii Sodol?
From the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, General Yurii Sodol participated in the defense of Mariupol and the battles near Volnovakha. In 2023, Sodol led an operational-tactical group in the Uhledar direction.
According to the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi in February 2024, Yuriy Sodol became the commander of the United Forces of the Armed Forces.
Since 2018, Sodol has been the commander of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In April 2024, he became the head of OSU «Khortytsia».
Although this appointment caused indignation in the network, because the entire eastern front falls on Sodol, while he is being accused of inadequate material support of the fighters, which led to losses.
In particular, People's Deputy from «Servant of the People» Mariana Bezuhla called Yurii Sodol a «backroom butcher». A few days earlier, after a trip to the front line, Mariana Bezuhla, commenting on the general's work, called him a criminal who appointed «his people» to key positions in the military command.
After that, the 35th separate brigade of marines officially appealed to political figures with a request not to call the commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yurii Sodol, a «butcher» in the information space. The military was asked not to enter the sphere in which society does not understand.
