During the first half of the year, 2,278 children were born in the Mykolaiv region, while 8,156 deaths were recorded. Such data is provided by Opendatabot with reference to the Ministry of Justice.

It should be noted that according to the results of last year, a total of 4,827 children were born in the Mykolaiv region.

In total, 87,655 children were born in Ukraine in the first half of 2024, which is 9% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, 250,972 deaths were recorded.

The most newborns were registered in Kyiv — 9,695 children, in Lviv Oblast — 7,923 and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast — 6,962. Stable few children are born in the frontline regions: in Kherson Oblast (221 children) and Donetsk Oblast (702).

«Currently, there are three deaths per one newborn citizen. This ratio is one of the key indicators of the demographic crisis. For comparison, in the years before Christmas in 2018-2020, there were two deaths per child. 250,972 people died in Ukraine in the first half of 2024. This is 1.4 times less than in the same period of 2021, when 349,041 deaths were recorded. However, it is worth noting that 2021 was the peak year for deaths due to the COVID-19 pandemic,» the article says.

The fewest deaths were in the front-line regions of Kherson Oblast (2,334) and Donetsk Oblast (5,753) and Chernivtsi Oblast (5,422). Anti-records were set in Dnipropetrovsk region — 26,374, Kharkiv region — 17,999, and Kyiv — 17,449.

We will remind you that there are plans to reduce the number of primary medical care centers in Mykolaiv. In a comment to NikVesti, the head of the city's health care department, Iryna Shamrai, said that they are planning to reorganize seven centers of primary health care in Mykolaiv on the instructions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. It is planned to reduce them to two or four institutions. According to Iryna Shamrai, this will save the city budget up to 27 million hryvnias per year. Later, the mayor of Mykolaiv explained in a video address to the citizens that the cuts will not apply to doctors, administrative staff will be laid off.

We will remind you that a year ago, Mykolaiv City Council decided to reorganize maternity hospitals №1 and №2 — they were attached to City Hospital №1 and City Hospital №3, respectively. As part of the reorganization, at least 57 employees of these medical institutions lost their jobs.
