The State Border Guard Service does not rule out that Russian troops may launch an offensive on Sumy Oblast in order to divert the attention of the Defense Forces in other directions.
This was stated by the spokesman of the State Border Service Andrii Demchenko on Radio Liberty.
According to him, the Russian invaders may try to advance in Sumy Oblast to distract the Defense Forces of Ukraine from other directions, as they are doing now in the north of Kharkiv Oblast.
«It can never be ruled out, and I emphasized that, including in the Sumy direction. The enemy can at any moment, even if he does not have sufficient forces, try to do something similar, as is currently happening in the Kharkiv direction. Precisely in order to stretch the front line, the line of active combat operations and actually stretch the defense forces of our country,» explained Andrii Demchenko.
He noted that each component of the Defense Forces has its own area of responsibility in the Sumy direction, and they all act in a coordinated manner, and the defense in this direction should be further strengthened.
«As long as we have such a neighbor, of course, we must be prepared for the development of any situations. And actually we should continue to build up our defense capabilities. It is also necessary to understand that the length of the border with our enemy is quite large. More than 560 kilometers in the Sumy region alone. And, in fact, even involving the forces that we have, which we can involve there, we have to keep our defense strong, because the enemy prevails both in terms of equipment, and in terms of means of destruction, and in terms of personnel, unfortunately,» added the spokesman State Border Service.
We will remind, the spokesman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Lykhovii, said that the Russians on the border with Chernihiv Oblast and Sumy Oblast are carrying out sabotage and reconnaissance activities and are increasing the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border.
The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense Kyrylo Budanov predicts that after the Kharkiv region, the Russians may launch a new attack in the direction of the Sumy region.
