A swimmer from Mykolaiv, Kateryna Sadurska, while holding her breath, dived without fins to a depth of 84 meters, which is equal to a quarter of the height of the Eiffel Tower. The athlete set the second world record.
This was reported in the sports team.
On Monday, December 2, the freediving competition according to the AIDA version ended. International competitions were held on the island of Dominica. Kateryna Sadurska was the only representative from Ukraine.
Earlier, on November 26, she successfully dived 82 meters, setting an absolute world record in the CNF discipline (diving without fins and additional equipment).
As the athlete said, this season was very stressful for her: constant training, many competitions, moving and meetings.
«I am extremely happy that my body is capable of such records, and that I can share this joy with Ukraine. This is my small contribution to our victory,» said Kateryna Sadurska.
It is noted that the achievements of Ukrainian women did not end there. Already on November 28, she dived in the discipline with a monofin. In training, the freediver overcame 106 meters, but at the competition she decided to take a risk and claimed 107 meters. This became a new national record and the deepest personal depth of an athlete.
Already later, the freediver plunged into the water for 84 meters in the CNF discipline. It should be noted that for a long time it was believed that women were incapable of diving this deep without additional equipment.
«This is a very special record because it shows the true power of women. What I mean by this dive is that we often underestimate ourselves. I strive to inspire women to believe in themselves and follow their calling. And this is not the limit,» the athlete noted.
We will remind that in 2023, swimmer Kateryna Sadurska won the first place in the discipline of free diving at the competition in Honduras, diving to 97 meters.
