Mykolaiv saber player Kharlan became the most titled athlete in terms of the number of Olympic medals in the history of Ukraine

Mykolaiv sportswoman Olha Kharlan became a six-time Olympic medalist, having won the «gold" of the team saber fencing tournament at the 2024 Games.

The complete list of her awards was published by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, writes NikVesti.

In total, during her career, Olga Harlan won six Olympic medals:

  • gold — team tournament (Beijing-2008), with Olha Zhovnir, Halyna Pundyk and Olena Khomrova; team tournament ( Paris-2024 ), with Alina Komaschuk, Olena Kravatska and Yulia Bakastova;
  • silver — team tournament ( Rio-2016 ), with Alina Komaschuk, Olena Kravatska and Olena Voronina;
  • bronze — individual tournament ( London-2012, Rio-2016, Paris-2024 ).

Thus, by the number of Olympic medals, Olga Harlan became the new Ukrainian record holder. Prior to that, the national record belonged to Ukrainian swimmer Yana Klochkova, who won four gold and one silver medals.

Mykolaiv athletes in the 2024 Olympics

This year, the 2024 Olympic Games are being held in Paris. NikVesti has prepared a selection of participants who will compete for Olympic medals from the Mykolaiv region, as well as where and when to watch all their performances.

Since the start of the Olympics, a number of Mykolaiv athletes have already managed to take part in the competition. 18-year-old Mykolaiv athlete Oleksii Sereda took fifth place in the final of the synchronized jumping competition from the 10-meter tower.

And Mykolaiv diver Kseniia Bailo in a duet with athlete Sofia Liskun took seventh place at the Olympic Games in Paris in synchronized jumping from a 10-meter springboard. And Mykolaiv divers Danylo Konovalov and Oleh Kolodii took part in synchronized diving from a 3-meter springboard and took seventh place.

Women's saber competitions were also held at the Olympic Games. Mykolaiv fencer Olga Harlan won the decisive battle for bronze. At the same time, Olha Harlan played a key role on the way to «gold» in the team tournament.
