Kazakhstan is a country in Central Asia with its capital in Astana. The modern state dates from 1991. It covers 2,724,900 km², and as of 1 June 2024 its population was estimated at 20,139,914.

In September 2023 President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev promised that Kazakhstan would comply with sanctions against Russia, and in October 2023 the country banned exports to Russia of 106 types of goods that could be used in the war. That month a methane explosion at the Kostenko mine in the Karaganda region killed 45 people. In February 2024 Tokayev accepted the resignation of the government. On 25 December 2024 an Azerbaijan Airlines plane flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau. In August 2026 it emerged that the Kazakh refinery Kondensat would process Russian oil and send about 70% of the fuel back to Russia.

MykVisti covers Kazakhstan's ties with Ukraine and Russia. In December 2023 Kazakh businesses pledged up to $14 million for a rehabilitation centre in Mykolaiv.
