Grain is Ukraine’s main farm export, shipped by sea through the ports of Greater Odesa and neighbouring countries. In the 2025–2026 marketing year Ukraine exported 32.8 million tonnes of grain, 14% less than a season earlier. Russia takes grain out of the occupied territories: according to Andrii Sybiha, it seized around 2 million tonnes in 2025. In October 2026 the export of stolen grain was for the first time treated as a war crime.
