bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church

The Pope is the bishop of Rome and head of the Catholic Church. Pope Francis died in the Vatican on 21 April 2025 at the age of 88. On 8 May 2025 the conclave elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of the United States, who took the name Leo XIV and became the first American to lead the Catholic Church. Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife attended his enthronement on 18 May. Leo XIV has said he is ready to mediate in peace talks. In October 2026, after lung surgery, the 71-year-old Pope was diagnosed with cancer.

MykVisti covers the Pope’s calls for peace in Ukraine, his meetings with Ukrainian leaders, talks on a common Easter date and the health of the pontiffs.
