State Emergency Service

DSNS, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, is responsible for civil protection, rescue work and fire safety. Its Main Department in Mykolaiv Oblast puts out fires after Russian attacks, deals with the aftermath of strikes on Mykolaiv and communities across the region, and clears mines from fields and waters. As of September 2026, the region had recorded 3,465 fires since the start of the year, 24% fewer than in the same period a year earlier, yet 35 people died in them. In July 2026 alone, fires caused more than ₴800 million in environmental damage in the region.
