Schoolchildren are pupils of schools, lyceums and gymnasiums. The war keeps shrinking their numbers: Mykolaiv has lost a quarter of its pupils, who numbered 46,304 before the full-scale invasion. In the 2026–2027 school year 88,500 children will study in Mykolaiv Oblast, and 5,782 will start first grade.
