Ministry of Education: Ukrainian schoolchildren will study weapons and military equipment

From now on, students of grades 10-11 will study weapons, shooting training, the basics of fortifications and first aid. They will also learn to navigate the terrain, control drones and conduct reconnaissance based on open sources.

As reported by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, the updated program of the «Defense of Ukraine» school course, which children will study in the 10th and 11th grades, was presented the other day.

It is noted that in the 10th grade, schoolchildren will study the basics of national security and defense of Ukraine, weapons and military equipment, as well as learn to navigate the terrain, the basics of engineering fortification and rifle training.

In the 11th grade, children will be told about the features of information security and will deepen their knowledge of pre-medical care. Also at this time, children will study methods of protecting the civilian population in crisis conditions, possibilities and methods of defense of Ukraine.

In addition, while studying at the Defense of Ukraine course, children will learn skills in drone control, information security, navigation, open source intelligence (OSINT), stress and psychological resilience. In order to practice practical skills, educational institutions will necessarily conduct field meetings or training sessions.

The Ministry of Education and Culture explained that the update of the course program is aimed at the formation of national identity in young people and skills to protect their own lives. The update is also driven by the realities and challenges «facing our state.»

The program should be given the seal «Recommended» based on the results of the examination, as well as approved by the ministry. During the development of the course, the recommendations of experts in the field of defense, educators and public organizations were taken into account.
