Embezzlement is the unlawful spending of someone else's money, most often public funds, by a person entrusted with it. In Mykolaiv Oblast local officials, including in Domanivka and Pivdennoukrainsk, are suspected or accused of embezzlement. In May 2026 a court suspended Iryna Bondarenko, head of the Mykolaiv City Council sports department, who is suspected of embezzling over UAH 500,000.
