36th Separate Marine Brigade based in Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv Marines are the soldiers of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi, based in Mykolaiv. The brigade defended Mariupol, and in July 2024 an expert estimated that about 1,300 Mykolaiv marines were held in Russian captivity. Russia stages public trials of them: in December 2024 nine defenders of Mariupol were sentenced to terms from 24 years to life. In prisoner exchanges in 2025 and 2026 the marines have been gradually coming home. The brigade has fought in the Kursk and Sumy regions and in Donetsk Oblast, and in March 2026 its 501st battalion received an honorary award for courage.

MykVisti covers prisoner exchanges, trials of the marines, the brigade's fighting and its awards.
