Institute of Mass Information (IMI)

Ukrainian NGO defending freedom of speech

Ukraine’s Institute of Mass Information (IMI) is a non-governmental organisation that monitors freedom of speech, records crimes against journalists and media and trains media workers. According to IMI, in three years of the full-scale war Russia committed at least 823 crimes against journalists and media in Ukraine, and 97 media workers were killed. Together with Detector Media, the institute compiles the Map of Recommended Media, which includes MykVisti. IMI runs a regional hub in Mykolaiv, Mediabaza Mykolaiv, and its coordinator in the region, Kateryna Sereda, is the editor-in-chief of MykVisti.

MykVisti covers IMI research on Mykolaiv media, newsrooms closed because of the war, obstruction of journalists, press access to city and regional council sessions and Mediabaza training sessions.
