International donors, projects and training: media representatives were told about the functions of the Mykolaiv Reconstruction and Development Office

Mykolaiv Media Base with representatives of the Reconstruction and Development Office held a meeting with Mykolaiv journalists, during which the media representatives got acquainted with the results of the body's work.

The head of the office, Viktor Sikalenko, explained that among the main challenges that had to be faced were the outflow of personnel, financial issues and work with donors.

«The Mykolaiv City Council, together with the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and the UN Development Program, thought that this could be a model, where should we go, and came to an agreement on what should be done. The Office of Reconstruction, where experts will work in various directions and help the community professional development, project management, learning English. There was also no vision of where to go next. The task was set to develop an action plan for improving services and setting up the services of communal services,» said Viktor Sikalenko.

The basis of the Office is experts in 17 areas, including:

  • youth policy development expert;

  • expert on the integration of war veterans, their families and IDPs;

  • cultural development expert;

  • expert on improving the provision of administrative services;

  • green transition expert (environmental safety and energy efficiency — author's note);

  • critical infrastructure expert;

  • self-governance expert;

  • an expert on the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

However, the staff will be increased in the future and 8 more specialists will be recruited.

Their activities will cover various areas: culture, development of small and medium-sized businesses, critical infrastructure, green transition, reintegration of IDPs and veterans, development of youth policy and provision of administrative services.

During the 4 months of work, the representatives managed to implement 12 projects to improve the life of the city, and the specialists of the Office will continue to work on 13 more in the future.
