country in Western Asia

Iran is a country in Western Asia. At the end of February 2026 Reuters reported that the country’s supreme leader Khamenei had been killed, and in March Iran came under US and Israeli strikes. The escalation in the Middle East led to a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, where Ukrainian sailors were among those stranded. In April 2026 the US and Iran held talks in Pakistan but failed to agree on a final end to the war.

The war also affects Ukraine. In March 2026 Zelenskyy said Iran was not currently supplying Russia with missiles to strike Ukraine, and in April he said Russia was helping Iran attack US bases. In June 2025 an Iranian missile hit an apartment block in Israel, killing a family from Odesa.

MykVisti covers the war and the talks, the Hormuz blockade and its effect on grain and fuel prices, and US sanctions against those helping Iran and Russia evade restrictions.
