Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Khmelnytskyi Oblast is a region in western Ukraine with its centre in the city of Khmelnytskyi. On 2 May 2024 President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Serhii Tiurin head of the regional military administration. In autumn 2024 the region was hit by a scandal around its medical and social expert commission: its head and her son were suspected of arranging fake disability certificates, 49 prosecutors had obtained disability status from the commission, and the Health Ministry cancelled the disability rulings for 74 men liable for military service.

Russia keeps attacking the region: in March 2024 shelling killed people, in June 2024 an infrastructure facility caught fire after a Shahed strike, and in October 2026 Russian attacks destroyed a large Epicentr warehouse in Khmelnytskyi.
