Public Interest Journalism Lab

The Public Interest Journalism Lab focuses on researching, developing, and promoting the most effective forms of socially significant journalism in the digital age. Their key activities include high-quality research, media strategy development, documentary filmmaking, multimedia journalism content, and training sessions.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Lab's team has been covering events in Ukraine for national and international media, documenting war crimes as part of the "Ukraine Testifies" project, and creating an online chronicle of Ukrainian resistance through the "Life of War" project.

The Lab was founded in 2020 by journalists Nataliya Gumenyuk and Angelina Kariakina, along with civil activists and communications experts Tata Peklun and Inna Nelles. Their pilot research focused on developing editorial and communication strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since 2022, the online media outlet "NikVesti" has been receiving financial support from the Lab.
